Marlene wasn't the type who usually when on Hogsmeade trips. She just had her friends pick up whatever she needed and paid them when they got back. This time was different. She was actually going to go to Hogsmeade but not to buy anything. No her friends were still going to do that. Marlene was going for one single reason. To see Augustus Rookwood. The boy that had captured her heart and held it still even though they weren't on the best of terms. He had asked to talk to her and she couldn't deny him. She had told him yes and had planned out the entire day. Marlene McKinnon was unaware of the clamor that Hogsmeade weekends entailed and was shocked to find everyone else awake and dressed before she was. It was a mad rush in the girl's dormitory and no one had thought to wake up Marlene, who normally didn't go on the trips. Marlene ended up being at the end of the line to get out which meant that the trip was more than half over before Marlene even got outside of the castle, which she didn't find fair at all.
Marlene knew she was late for the date she was supposed to keep with Augustus. She figured he wouldn't mind if she was late but this was pushing it to the extreme. She was hours and hours late. She had lost track of how much time she had spent standing at the back of the line and just waiting for them to let her into Hogsmeade. Then the half an hour long trip it actually took to get into Hogsmeade consumed even more time. Augustus was going to hate her and she was sure of that. She knew he was going to hate her because she he would think she had stood him up when she had tried her hardest to get there on time. She blamed herself though and most certainly wouldn't get angry at him if he was indeed angry at her. She couldn't blame him because she had promised she'd be there and she wasn't. It wasn't exactly her fault but she should have predicted the mad rush to get out of the school. They were cooped up most of the time so she should have expected the havoc their one chance at freedom would cause.
She and Augustus had had the perfect relationship. Marlene didn't judge and criticize him and he was romantic and poetic. Every girl's dream. She was the envy of girls all around the school for quite some time. Augustus was sweet to her and she loved him. She knew it was early to say she found the man she wanted to marry but she had been so sure back then. So sure that nothing could possibly tear the two apart. So sure that they would last through anything the world could throw at them until Augustus became more and more withdrawn from Marlene. She became worried and questioned what he was doing. He hid it from her but she eventually found out that the dark arts were consuming all of his time. He was becoming a death eater and it was only his sixth year in Hogwarts. They had been on a hiatus during the summer and now... Well, now things were more awkward than ever. But Marlene didn't want to think about those things right now. She shook those thoughts from her mind and frowned.
She walked into the Three Broomsticks and looked around, expecting to see an angry Augustus but all she saw was leering faces. People that weren't fond of her. She quickly exited and took a deep breath. That was most certainly not a friendly place at this point in time. Too many Slytherins for Marlene to handle at one time. They didn't normally hate her unless they all got into groups and then they decided she was the enemy. She avoided them whenever it was possible. She glanced around to see if she could find any trace of Augustus but sighed when she saw none. She knew he had gone off somewhere and he most definitely angry at her. That was most likely the reason he had left the pub to begin with. She slowly walked back into the pub and found a friendly face that had been walking in as Augustus headed away. She gathered where he was going from the direction she was told. He would want to be alone and there was really only one place to be alone in Hogsmeade. She shook her head and exhaled a small sigh before walking back outside.
Marlene slowly made her way to the Shrieking Shack and had a mental debate about what she was going to tell Augustus and she couldn't help but wonder what he wanted to talk to her about. They hadn't really spoken since they had got back to school so she wondered what in the world he would need to talk to her about. She just hoped he would let her explain why she was late before he gave theories of his own. The shack was said to be haunted and was avoided by most students so she was fairly certain that Augustus would be the only one up there. That would make talking to him all the much easier. She saw him and quietly approached him while still trying to think of what she was going to tell him. Of what she could say to make up for making him wait all day and not showing up when she had promised to. She would just have to apologize and see where it went from there.... She just hoped they wouldn't end up in a fight.. She slowly sat down on the ground in front of him before she spoke.
"Augustus.....I'm so sorry I'm late. I intended to get up early but I didn't realize all the commotion and the crowding that Hogsmeade trips caused. I really did mean to be here at the time we agreed upon. Are you terribly angry at me?"
