“Yea…he wanted it as a birthday present for mum. Said it captured the entire family and how wacky we all were."
A laugh! Jasper smiled, glad to hear the sound of James' laugh. When James Potter was upset, there was no hope for anyone. James' sense of humor was contagious and he could make even the most depressed people enjoy themselves. It was something Jasper knew James had always given himself pride in. James had been one of the people who kept her from being miserable during the time of her parents' divorce. Jazz had no idea how to cheer James up and she hated it. She hated having to sit back and watch her friend suffer through this pain. It killed her to see James this way. She hated feeling so helpless. Why hadn't she been able to see this? She was a Seer for crying out loud! [Unbeknownst to her friends, of course] Why they hell couldn't she have had a vision of this. She could have prevented this! The Potters' wouldn't be suffering right now because Jasper could have made them get checked out and possibly saved their lives. Stupid unreliable visions! Jasper growled to herself. Jazz got ahold of herself long enough to answer James' response.
"He was right, it did capture us all." Jasper whispered, a small smile on her face.
She never knew the Potters' had considered her as a daughter. She knew James thought of her as family. He'd told her on several occassions. He called her Sister Bear and even introduced her as his sister. It had always given Jasper great comfort to know that someone had cared about her life a real brother should. It had never bothered Jasper or James that they weren't really related, apparently Harold and Victoria felt the same way about Ms. Kensington. Jasper had never felt wanted in a family, even during the happier times with her parents. She felt like she belonged with the Potters. At their home during the summers, everything felt so right and carefree. It pained Jasper to think of summers spent without Harold and Victoria. They would never be the same, no matter how hard they tried to recreate them without the senior Potters.
"Can you... tell Sirius? I don't think I can..."
James' voice sounded so small and childlike. It didn't belong to her strong, lionhearted brother. Jasper frowned, hating to see James so vulnerable. She couldn't even begin to imagine how Sirius would react. Sirius, much like herself, had never really had a good family. The Black's hated their eldest son and it was no secret. They were well known for hating Dumbledore and were all for Pureblood supremacy. Such a disappointment when their oldest child did not have their beliefs and was sorted into Gryffindor, the only Black ever to do so. The only people in Sirius' family who didn't loathe the very sight of him were his Uncle Alphard and cousin Andromeda, two of the three decent Black's living. Jasper sighed, wondering how Sirius would feel after learning his surrogate parents were dying.
"I'll tell him," Jasper mumbled, feeling herself on the brink of slumber. "I've got it covered."
Jasper closed her eyes and snuggled closer to the warmth of James' body and the blanket he'd thrown over them. She felt his body rising and falling in a peaceful sleep. She too soon found solace in the dreamworld, her dreams filled with happy thoughts where the Potters weren't dying and it was just another happy summer in the Potter Manor.
----------
Cobalt eyes awoke to sunlight filling the large bedroom. Jasper yawned and looked next to her, finding James with a smile on his face. He was obviously having a good dream. She smiled slightly, glad he was able to find peace in his sleep. Jazz wiggled out from under James' strong grip, careful to try and avoid waking him up. She didn't want him to wake up and lose his dream just cause she'd had enough sleep. Jasper fixed the covers back around James and headed towards the door of his bedroom. She really wanted to find a way to cheer her brother up. But if she was going to do that, she needed to be a bit more awake. A shower was the perfect way to do so.
Jasper headed towards one of the many bathrooms in the Potter manor, hoping she'd left a bottle of shampoo or shower gel here from one of her many stays. She entered the bathroom and headed towards the shower to see the contents. Ok, she had some of her shampoo stored here, but no shower gel. She groaned, realizing she'd have to use some of James' shower gel. Oh well. Jasper turned the water on and allowed it to heat up first, then stepped into the near scalding water. She let the hot water work its way into her sore muscles and let out a sigh. Yesterday's events had taken a toll on the girls mind and body. She felt drained of all energy and her head was reeling from the unfortunate news. Jasper hurried and lathered her shampoo into her hair, rinsed it and then repeated the process with shower gel. She had a friend in despair to try and cheer up.
Jasper exited the bathroom and found an outfit neatly folded on the counter, a note from Twilight, James' house elf, hoping Jasper approved of the outfit she'd gone to get from her apartment. Jazz smiled, glad Twilight had gone for a lazy and comfy look rather than stylish for her. She changed into the black sweat pants and royal blue tank top, feeling relaxed from her shower. Jazz threw her hair up into a messy loop on the back of her head and walked towards the foyer when an idea hit her. She grinned and ran outside and to Mrs. Potter's garden, hoping to god Victoria grew what she was looking for. She spotted the flower and grinned; James would love to see the Lilies. Jazz picked a bouqet of twelve and went back inside to put them in a vase, then had Lucky take them up to James' room.
Once that was done, Jasper walked into the kitchen and went to the stove. She hadn't cooked in awhile even though it was somethinbg she enjoyed doing. She'd learned how to during her many visits to the Potter manor. Victoria had always been in the kitchen. Twilight, poor thing, was busting pregnant and could definitely use the help. Jasper smiled at the house elf and told her to go rest; she'd take care of James' breakfast. Twilight politely refused and Jasper and the house elf began to cook homemade chocolate chip pancakes. Jasper hummed and sang to herself as she did so, feeling at ease in the kitchen.
"What are you making? I didn't even know you could cook."
Jasper nearly dropped the frying pan she was holding, surprised to hear James' voice. She spun around, finding James sitting at the bar with his chin in his hand, an amused smile on his face. Jasper gave him a playful scowl, a silent reprimand for scaring her and bringing up a childhood memory. During one summer visit, she'd nearly burned the kitchen down from a mishap with the oven. Jasper stuck her tongue out at him before returning to the task at hand. She smiled, glad he didn't know what she was cooking. It was a muggle invention after all, how could he know what chocolate chip pancakes were? Jazz grinned, proud she could give him his own surprise. She ignored James just for a moment as she placed a stack of pancakes onto a plate, then added whipped cream and powdered sugar, her own personal touch. She then poured him a glass of pumpkin juice, repeating the same process for herself and levitated the plates and cups to the table.
"They're chocolate chip pancakes," Jasper said with a smile, glad that James didn't look as bad as yesterday. "And you'd better eat that entire plate mister. I made those from scratch!"
Jasper teasingly added the last part, a smirk on her face.
